The Monte Cristo Homestead has long been known as Australia's most haunted Homestead. This October Sydney Medium Janine Louise is leading an intimate weekend at the Homestead with workshops, history and investigation all on offer. With this event coming up and Australia's fascination with The Monte Cristo Homestead in Junee still alive and well, Janine took the time to share some of her thoughts and what she has planned for guests in October.
The Monte Cristo has been labelled as Australia’s most haunted Homestead. In your opinion is this still true?
I have indeed visited many locations and I have to say in my opinion and experiences, this is still the Homestead that gets me every time. Every visit still leaves me with no sleep, goose bumps and every hair on my body, standing for days after.. To this day I still refuse to sleep in the house..
What can guests expect from your event coming up?
This is a jam packed weekend from3.00pm Friday 14th to Sunday 16th October. Beginning with the platform on the Friday evening and a first night stay at Monte. Guests will receive a Continental Breakfast and mid-morning we will make our way to the Junee Cemetery where we visit the Graves of some of the Crawlys’. From there we head to the Liquorice Factory which is a popular tourist attraction in Junee, for a group lunch which is optional and the guests will have an opportunity to enjoy the JLM Heritage Teams company over a fine meal as well as purchase yummy chocolate and liquorice form the shop and take a walk through the factory and antique display. We have a few hour free-time for guests to site see in Junee or just have a rest before joining in for dinner at 6.00pm for the beginning of the Tour. Guest will enjoy a three course meal while listening to stories told by Lawrence and Sophia and maybe if we are lucky Olive. Following dinner there will be a Residual Energy Workshop and a short presentation by the JLM Heritage Tour Team. At around 8.30pm the tour and investigation begins.. This is where the real stuff begins and Monte comes alive. The experience in itself is somewhat spin chilling and it is a rare occasion that anyone walks away unaffected..Tour and investigation will be led by myself and The JLM Team and will commence at about 1.00am… I can’t give too much more away about the investigation. The next morning a full big breakfast (to recover) and a Closing presentation.
Tell us something about Monte Cristo we don’t know (spooky or otherwise)
Have to be careful what I say here!!! The most profound thing I have found with Monte is how alike the Crawley’s life was to how the Ryans life is.. There are many, many, similarities which doesn’t surprise knowing how much Reg accommodated Mrs Crawley’s wants and desires. As you may or may not know Reg was extremely intuitive and believed he could communicate with her so he did pretty much whatever she wanted.. Hence the fact that Monte still exists the way it does today.
The other thing is that Monte Cristo Homestead is built on an outlay of Quartz crystal, which to me is why it’s energy is so fermented and powerful. We actually went underground and filmed below the homestead, whilst it was three degrees outside, it was about 26 degrees or more when we were filming. The energy that ran off the crystal was overwhelming, interfering with the camera and both the cameraman and myself. If you could imagine we were unable to stay down there for too long.
