When it comes to crystals we all have differing viewpoints – some believe in healing powers, protecting powers or psychic powers, others believe they are pretty and look good as a piece of jewellery. Either way, they exist and I am here to tell you about them. Why me? Because my name works well as a title, that’s why! – Oh and I am a practicing Witch and Psychic so I have some experience to go with the name.
*Disclaimer: This article includes the above terms and other words that are also not Pokémon’ characters! Sorry.*
Fun Fact: Amethyst is also known as ‘sober stone’ (insert joke about Megan’s family here). Many articles will tell you the word Amethyst comes from a Greek word which Google translate tells me means ‘inintoxicated’- or in better English ‘sober’ – so I can confirm they have this correct and am happy to call this a fact. Some other information many articles will tell you of are not so much proven facts but I will offer them to you for you to decided depending on your beliefs.
I am one for a good story so I quite enjoy mythology – in this case I like it even more as it includes wine.
According to the ‘legends’ the story in a nutshell tells a tale of the alcoholic Dionysus -The God of Wine actually- that fell for a woman named Amethyst who had no interest in him. To help her avoid him the Goddess Artemis turned her to stone (that’ll work) Then apparently as an offering Dionysus poured wine over the stone, turning it purple (that’s just mean, she couldn’t even drink it). OR the second one which I like better – Again, the drunk Dionysus encounters a woman named Amethyst however due to someone else’s wrong doing he is angry and vows to kill the next person he sees, poor Amethyst was this person. Artemis again turned her to stone in this story to protect her from him however this time Dionysus cries over the stone due to remorse of what he had intended to do and his wine filled tears turned the stone of Amethyst purple.
Magical Use: The most basic spell I have come across for using Amethyst would be a blessing and protection spell where you sit the crystal in water and use accordingly. E.g Drink for self-protection and healing – please remember, do not swallow the crystal, only the water. And maybe use a tumbled stone to ensure it stays intact, and clean it first. – just a safety precaution. Pour on a talisman or object. Or sprinkle throughout a premises for a house cleansing.
Anyone that practices spell work knows the best chants are ones that come from your own being, however if you need some assistance, here is an example you could use and manipulate depending on your cause.
“O Great Goddess, Shine your Lunar light upon this (crystal/object name)
I ask that you charge this (object e.g. stone) with healing power
Oh Great God, Shine your Solar light upon this (crystal/object name)
I ask that you empower this (object e.g. stone) with your protective power
Non-Magical Use: If you feel Amethyst does not work for you in this way and you would prefer it stay just a pretty purple stone, you can get a cheap necklace from stores such as Collette at any Westfield for less than $20. – Although please do not think Dionysus is cursing you if the stone falls out. The glue was probably just not very good. Re-glue and continue to be your beautiful self!
