Amanda Moloney catches up with Mitchell Coombes to ask the important questions in life and find out a bit about him in the lead up to the Australian Paranormal and Spiritual Expo. Mitchell is a well known and trusted Australian medium. He has regular appearances on Chanel 7’s The Morning Show and the Breakfast morning show on Newcastles 102.9. Mitchell is also an established author, penning several of his own books and writing a weekly column for Woman’s Day magazine. He often does tours around the country to keep an eye out for dates coming near you.
When did you first discover that you have this gift to receive messages from spirit? Did it freak you out?
I can recall seeing spirit people from the age of 3 years old. Just like the little boy in the movie The Sixth Sense, I’ve always seen and heard dead people! However as a child I called them green people.
What advice would you give to parents who have children who are experiencing these sorts of gifts at a young age? How do they deal with this without the kids being scared of it?
Listen without judgment; create a safe space for your child to express what they are feeling. Offer positive thoughts and be a strength based role model. Many children have a pure and natural connection to psychic and spiritual energy because their minds have not been conditioned with limited ways of thinking. In my second book, “Sensing Psychic: Awaken the Psychic Within” I devote an entire chapter to understanding more about the psychic gifts of young children and how to better manage.
We hear words thrown about like clairaudience, clairvoyance, and clairsentience. Can you explain the difference and how do you receive your messages and communications?
There are three main ways a medium or psychic can receives messages, guidance and insight. Clairaudience, Clairvoyance, Clairsentience are French words in origin that literally translate to mean, clear psychic hearing, seeing, and feeling. When I am connecting to the Spirit World, I use all my natural gifts of seeing, hearing and feeling.
What is your preferred method of connecting, do you prefer to just use yourself or cards or something else?
When I am communicating with departed loved ones in the Spirit World, I don’t use cards or any other tools. However, I did learn to read tea leaves when I was 6 years old and at the age of 12, I inherited a set of tarot cards and have read them ever since.
Can you explain the difference between a medium, a psychic and a clairvoyant?
All mediums are psychic, but not all psychics are mediums. A medium is just that - a direct channel between heaven and earth. A psychic reads and interprets energy related to the past, present and future. The word “clairvoyant” is French and simply translates to “clear seeing” or psychic vision.
How do you close yourself off when you are not communicating, obviously it would be rather tiring to have spirits connecting with you all the time. I read once that Lisa Williams has a particular hat she puts on and when that's on she doesn't 'do' her gift. Do you have any advice for people on how to put the barriers up?
I have a Native American spirit guide, whose name is Red Feather. My guide Red Feather is my greatest teacher, healer and protector. When I’m talking to loved ones in the Spirit World, we work closely together he and I, to hold a clear link and connection. He protects me when I am “off duty”.
You are going to be attending the Australian Paranormal and Spiritual Expo in September, what are you going to be presenting there?
I’m thrilled to be attending the Australian Paranormal and Spiritual Expo this year. With the help of my spirit guide Red Feather, I will be passing on messages of love, comfort and healing from loved ones in the spirit world to audience members. I’ll also allow time for questions and answers and take the audience through a short meditation for healing and harmony.
